An Introduction to AI Agents
AI Agents are the next big leap in AI and automation and are poised to take over the world.
Examples of AI agents are everywhere. Crypto, DeFi, Healthcare, Finance, and Supply Chain are just the beginning of the beginning—the tip of the iceberg.
Companies have stopped hiring developers because they expect Agentic AI to replace them in several roles. (source)
Building AI agents will be the next big thing as far as AI engineering and automation is concerned.
There are examples of AI agents all around us already.
We just haven't realized it as yet.
According to market experts, the current AI Agent market has jumped from nothing to around 4B USD in 2024. It will skyrocket to almost 50B USD by 2030, if not more. (source)
As the market grows, the barrier to entry is lowered.
No-code to low-code tools for creating AI agents are becoming increasingly popular, and some platforms have already become highly profitable.
And the use cases of AI agents are exploding. They are being used everywhere!
But first - what is Agentic AI?
What is an AI Agent?
You may need an introduction to what an AI agent is.
An AI agent is a software that is powered by (usually) AI technology and has one or more of the following characteristics:
Dynamism: They perceive the details of the surrounding environment and make decisions accordingly.
Autonomous: They can work without human oversight and have hard limits when they require humans to take over their operation, notifying them as needed.
Complex or straightforward: They can be as simple as a rule-based system or as bright as a swarm of cooperating drones operating through an adaptive and intelligent collective algorithm.
Intelligent Behaviour: Thanks to large language models or other Intelligent Systems like IBM Watson Cognitive Services, they can be creative, generate new workflows, and even change current behavior according to the circumstances (new input).
There are several types of AI agents, which include:
Reflex Agents
These agents act on simple if-then rules and are the easiest to build. However, they are helpful in a wide variety of scenarios.
Model-Based Reflex Agents
Model-based reflex agents maintain a model of their environment and use a memory of events to choose their subsequent response.
Goal-Based Agents
For more complex scenarios, agents can be trained using reinforcement learning to optimize a preset goal, which could be as simple as incurring minimal cost.
Utility-Based Agents
These agents choose their following action based on the utility of the task and often use simple rules that consider multiple factors and preferences.
Learning Agents
Machine Learning agent systems improve these agents over time or over usage to improve their performance based on algorithm or environment feedback.
Hierarchical Agents
These agents often have multiple agents coordinating with each other based on different logic for high-level tasks and different logic for subtasks.
Reactive Agents
Agents that react to their surroundings or inputs based on internal logic are used in real-time systems.
Hybrid Agents
Agents that use multiple types of logic, such as utility and reactive agents, combine the strengths of differing kinds of agent behavior to improve the combined agent.
Cognitive Agents
Agents that simulate human-level tasks like adapting, learning, chatting, understanding, and problem-solving. They usually rely on LLMs as a backend.
Swarm Agents
Many agents act together toward a single goal that more efficiently and effectively produces the desired result. These are often based on a Controller-Worker framework.

AI Agents in Cryptocurrency Trading
Several AI crypto agents/bots can be created to generate profitable returns.
Automated Trading Bots
Automated trading bots can deliver high value by buying on a dip and selling high. This is a simplified example; many more factors should be accounted for, but this is the basics of a crypto trading profit. Many online platforms, such as this one, allow you to create an Automated Trading Bot without code, potentially yielding very high returns.
Market Analysis Bots
These bots continuously scan the crypto markets and use technical analysis, such as Moving Averages, Relative Strength Indexes, and Bollinger Bands, to create ideal entry and exit points and optimize trading strategies for high profit. I realize these are technical terms, but crypto and trading experts will recognize them immediately. Google them for more information since they are beyond the scope of this article.
Risk Management Bots
These provide automated ways to protect traders' capital. They include Automated Take-Profit and Stop-Loss Orders, Dynamic Position Sizing, Risk-Reward Ratio Monitoring, Portfolio Rebalancing, and Adaptive Strategies in Volatile Markets. Again, these are technical terms; Google them for a more detailed explanation, the scope of which is beyond the scope of this article.

AI Agents in DeFi and Blockchain
Some of the best AI Agents in DeFi and Blockchain are:
Automated Yield Farming Bots
Yield farming is the process of lending or staking your crypto at a very high interest rate. While potentially lucrative, bots can be emotion-driven, inefficient, time-consuming, and complex. Automating Yield Farming with Bots removes human problems and yields optimized profits.
Smart Contract Auditing Agents
Smart Contract Auditing Agents are essential to the security of crypto and DeFi. Smart Contracts are a fundamental building block of the DeFi ecosystem, and these bots perform the following functions:
Scan For Known Vulnerability Patterns: They scan for code patterns that are known to be associated with common smart contract vulnerabilities like:
Re-entrancy: Avoiding recursive calling of contracts (multiple withdrawals)
Gas Limit Issues: Not exceeding transaction fees
Timestamp Dependence: An exploit that miners can target
Denial of Service (DoS): Preventing legitimate users from accessing the contract
Access Control Issues: Preventing unauthorized access
Of course, human auditing is still required. However, these bots can significantly help, especially when the processing is complex and for comprehensive coverage.
NFT Valuation Bots
These are automated tools that analyze the net worth of NFTs. They consider the following factors: market demand, rarity, sales history, market trends, and valuations. They provide valuation estimates and help collectors, traders, and investors. They can be very useful in the NFT space.
AI Agents in Other Industries
Finance and Banking
AI agents are beneficial at identifying fraudulent transactions at varying levels of data assessment (the more data, the better), risk assessment, personalized financial advice, and customer service with chatbots.
Healthcare
They are also excellent at diagnosis and healthcare planning, drug discovery and development, patient monitoring and remote care, and personalized medicine and therapy suggestions.
E-commerce
In e-commerce, they excel at creating recommendation systems with personal profiling, inventory management for stores and warehouses, dynamic pricing according to market demands, and large-scale fraud detection based on available data.
Social Media and Marketing
In social media, AI agents can be used for basic content creation and curation, sentiment analysis for brands, influencers, and customers, carefully targeted advertising on the granularity of the individual user, and influencer marketing identification and utilization.
The Future of AI Agents
As stated earlier, as a conservative estimate, the AI agent is expected to grow to 50 billion USD by 2030.
AI agents are the future, and we can expect automation in nearly every single use case that does not require extremely high levels of human nuance and expertise.
While AI agents will become prevalent in nearly every business case, we will focus on crypto and blockchain as one of the most promising areas.
The development of crypto and AI has led to a most optimal market for AI agents.
The following article is a great read and highlights some of the mind-boggling possibilities of AI agents and crypto in the future.
AI Agents: The Future of Crypto and Beyond
To summarize this article, AI was used to create a semi-gnostic theistic entity (read the article!), and an AI-generated influencer became profitable and issued its own token, $GOAT, generating billions in revenue.
When first reading this article, one wonders about science fiction over technological fact!
It is literally that mind-boggling!
But it definitely displays the power that autonomous AI, crypto, and blockchain can have when combined to create entirely new realities and a new outlook on AI influencers and virtual artificial entities.
The Role of Blockchain in Securing the Future of AI Agents
Blockchain, a decentralized, distributed, immutable ledger, is a powerful tool for securing cryptocurrency and AI systems when used wisely.
Some authors have touted blockchain as the future of building explainable AI and converting AI systems from a black box to something we can understand from the inside out.
However, blockchain systems need expertise and years of experience to be utilized optimally.
Despite this potential obstacle, blockchain remains the best approach to ensuring a scam-free, transparent, and open future for crypto and DeFi.
Blockchain is a layer of verifiable security.
That foundation must be made more efficient, and high-throughput platforms like Solana should be preferred over legacy systems like Ethereum.
While Solana processes 60,000 transactions a second and incurs very low transaction fees, Ethereum takes minutes per transaction and incurs very high transaction fees, especially when the network is congested (gas fees).
Blockchain and machine learning are fields that can revolutionize the technological landscape of the future, especially when combined.
The demand for blockchain professionals and ML engineers has never been higher.
The Rise of AI-Driven Autonomous Financial Systems
Looking ahead, we see an autonomous, independent, AI-based economy.
This will enable multiple agents to work together, collaborate, and even compete in decentralized markets.
The convergence of blockchain, AI agents, and crypto is also set to revolutionize society through gaming, entertainment, and social media.
We will see three possible layers of infrastructure.
Blockchain as a transaction and security layer.
AI for advanced agent autonomous behavior in ways we cannot fully understand today.
Crypto and tokenomics as the economic layer.
This economic engine will drive the entire transformation of society in entertainment, gaming, and social platforms, creating an AI-agent-centered future.
AI agents earn and direct communities autonomously through mechanisms such as DAOs in such an environment.
The upcoming future will be - interesting!
